Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of our time reviewing the definition of input-output and reviewing how to make algebraic expressions. I left him with the extra practice of going online and reviewing certain things: negatives, x axis, y axis, how to write an equation, and a few other things."
"The student has a test in math tomorrow on circles, ellipses, and hyperbola (no parabolas). For review, his teacher had assigned two worksheets: the problems included deriving the formula for the conic from a graph, deriving the formula from a description of the conic, drawing the conic from a given formula, and describing pertinent details (vertices, foci, etc.) from a formula. The student took a bit of time getting into the hang of parsing the general form of the formulas, but quickly fell into a steady rhythm for solving them. By the end of the session, he was feeling very confident about the test."
"The student and I went over three topics of integration in preparation for her upcoming test. We went over integration by parts and two techniques for integrating volumes. Once I explained to her what was going on during the set up she seemed to understand how to apply the techniques appropriately."
"The student and I worked on 8th grade level algebra problems. We specifically focused on the distributive property and factoring. We also reviewed one of his writing assignments. Finally, I assigned him several worksheets, both on algebra and writing, for homework."
"Monday, we previewed some of the introductory statistics the student will have in the next few days. Then we reviewed earlier material which he had partly forgotten--equation manipulations and the solution of simple equations."
"We went over lesson about ratios and rates. I explained concepts along the way. The student did two independent practice modules and two quizzes, performing well on all of them. Smooth session today. I assigned the student to cover four independent practice modules and complete two quizzes on similar material before meeting next week and starting new lessons."
