Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had an unexpected homework assignment that counts as a quiz grade and wanted assistance. The assignment was to analyze a data set using the principles we had been covering: Mean/SE, z-scores, confidence intervals, and interpreting statistics. We worked together to identify which statistical concept applied to each question and determine the appropriate formula to use. We calculated the answer to each question together, and she was to write out the homework for submission on her own."
"The student had a practice Exam covering various topics, so we worked through this for the entire duration of the session. There were 3-4 questions on topics he had not covered yet, but we worked through most of the problems. I taught him one new concept (definite integrals) because it was only one additional step from the indefinite integrals he'd already learned. He walked me through the majority of the questions, and I was there to interject if he had additional questions on the method."
"We covered an assessment review with mixed topics. I talked to the student about practicing percents and proportions and that the more he practices the more comfortable he'll get with the topic."
"Today the student and I continued working on dividing with decimals. He was able to determine rules for decimal placement when dividing a number with a decimal in it and then determine rules for dividing numbers by decimals. At the end of the session I gave him a set a problems that served as an assessment. He did great! I left him with a practice packet for additional practice."
"Today the student and I had a productive session. He has an upcoming statistics test, so we concentrated on that. We reviewed box plots, mean, median, MAD and IQR. We worked through several problems and discussed the rationale behind his answers. We also reviewed several other related concepts. We finished the session by reviewing some of the material we had covered in earlier sessions, using sample questions from the 6th grade math state sample tests. All in all, it was a good session."
"We reviewed the placement test topics today. The student would take a test tomorrow and let me know how he did on the placement test and we will go from there."
