Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed stereochemistry in detail. I pushed the student to really understand all of the different terms, like enantiomers, diastereomers, and meso. We did sample problems to test her knowledge."
"[COVERED]: We began by picking up where we left off with Central Dogma, defining sense/antisense. We discussed transcription and its control: Prokaryotic operons, and eukaryotic transcriptomes, as well as post-transcriptional modification. We discussed mutations, differentiating between mutation mechanisms and consequences. We then discussed Meiosis and gametogenesis differences in the sexes. We then moved on to viral replication, and closed with bacterial genetic recombination. [EXTRA PRACTICE]: The student will take a practice test this weekend."
"The student and I continued our MCAT physiology review. We started with the reproductive system, focusing on the anatomy of both male and female, as well as spermatogenesis and oogenesis. We then talked about the role of hormones (FSH and LH) for each and their effects on the structures and functions of the reproductive system. From there we talked about the menstrual cycle (follicular phase, ovulation, luteal phase, menstruation) and the role of the hormones GnRH, FSH, LH, estrogen, and progesterone in the process. Then we moved on to embryology, from fertilization to neurulation. After talking about fetal respiration and circulation, we moved on to the musculoskeletal system. We covered all the concepts of this system from the structure of bones to the neuromuscular junction, and the different types of muscles. We also talked about energy reserves (creatine phosphate and myoglobin) and connective tissue. We ended the session by talking about muscle-bone interactions. Next session we are going to talk about the digestive system, skin, kidneys and the rest of the nervous system."
