Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We prepared for the student's upcoming quiz on preterit (regular and irregular verbs) and vocabulary. She had questions about the preterit tense and wanted to dedicate the bulk of the lesson to that. She explained the tense to me and we did conjugation practice and exercises in her textbook. She said she felt confident about this material by the end!"
"The students had a review packet that their teacher put together, so we went over it together. The packet consisted of explanations of grammar concepts (preterite tense in the verbs "ir", "dar", "ser", and "ver"), passages about culture in three Spanish speaking countries, as well as a page about the importance of accent marks in the Spanish language. What I found was that both of them struggled with matching verb conjugations to their corresponding subjects--they'll get the conjugation correct, but they relate it to the wrong subject. For practice, I suggested that they rewrite verb conjugations with their corresponding subjects over and over until they don't need to anymore/don't get confused with which subjects correlate with which verb conjugations."
"Today was our first tutoring session together. The student is a pleasure to tutor and a presents a fun "pronunciation" challenge as we "un-French" his Spanish! We covered the verbs SER and ESTAR. We conjugated both verbs, with inclusion of the VOSOTROS, and practiced forming sentences out loud. Next lesson I will present a better picture of when to appropriately use VOSOTROS, USTEDES, AND USTED. I left him with a practice worksheet and will email him some links to online quizzes."
