"I taught her completing the square (getting her a little ahead in the class). We started basic and worked up to the challenging problems. Our strategy today was writing down every step, even if it takes longer. She scored 90% on last unit test!"
"Worked with the student on the calculation of the mean absolute deviation. The process was broken down into three steps, and each was described and reviewed thoroughly. By the end of the session he seemed to have a good grasp on the material. He continues to maintain a positive and ambitious outlook during our sessions. It would benefit him to continue to complete practice problems and focus on the steps and equations required for each type of problem."
"Went over bivariate data in table and graphical forms. Topics included scatter plots, line of best fit, and linear regression. Again, the student had pretty good background knowledge of the material; he picked up on the rest relatively easily. Combined with the univariate data lesson from the previous session."
"Today, I helped the student review for his test on Chapter 5, regarding solving inequalities, graphing the solutions, and interpreting the algebraic results in a logical manner. He continues to do very well on his material and only occasionally needs help in setting up the first step of doing a problem. After that, he can complete it on his own. And every so often, he might make a small mistake, but he immediately understands the mistake and what the correct answer is once I point it out. Because we felt strong on the material for chapter 5, we started previewing chapter 6 - regarding systems of equations and inequalities and what the results of those mean from a logical standpoint."
"I began explaining/teaching the student about the nature of functions. This required an explanation of the difference between lines, functions, and things that are not functions. This will lead directly into teaching him about quadratic functions, which is an extension of one of our previous activities."
"We covered word problems, systems of equations through substitution and addition/subtraction, systems of inequalities. This was all chapter review homework in preparation for the student's test. He understood all the concepts and was able to complete the homework on his own while I double-checked his answers to ensure that he did not make mental errors with his positive and negative signs. We also practiced study skills and organization by making a schedule for the week that he will keep on the front of his binder."
