"We went over the problems he missed, and I explained how to make TCC's. We started a vocab list. He is to finish test one this week."
"The student and I worked on the writing section, focusing specifically on the essay portion. I read and evaluated her essay from her previous SAT, and I gave her guidelines for writing a better essay."
"Today we went over the student's first practice test, and we were able to address every incorrect answer in one session. On the math section, I noticed that he was thrown off by what I call "unconventional" questions, such as ones involving made-up symbols or odd geometric shapes. I explained that just because something seems unfamiliar, it doesn't mean he doesn't posses the underlying knowledge to solve the problem. As a strategy, I said he should break the problem into steps based on what he can do with the information given and where he's trying to end up (the answer). On the critical reading section he performed well, but a few times he picked second best answers that exist specifically to tempt students. We checked those answers and saw that without support from the passage, even options that sound perfect cannot be correct. To improve on this section, he mainly needs to bolster his vocabulary with words from his SAT flashcards and read high-quality material (newspaper articles, chapters from classic books, etc.) every day. On the writing section, we discussed grammar rules on questions that don't seem incorrect at first glance. For the next session, I asked him to take another practice test, including the essay, and to pick additional vocab words. He should pick 80 words from his set, but take out the words he knows well already."
