"This lesson, the student and I worked through the outline for a historical essay about the Kingdom of Israel. We discussed possible ways to further hone this outline, focusing on one of the three main points and making this a thesis statement with its own three subsidiary points. The student thought through each point in depth and determined potential focuses. The focus on one point out of the three is quite a helpful strategy when finding thesis in history essays. Next, we began another essay to prepare for his upcoming standardized test essay. This one, based on the test, will require considering two passages with different points of view and choosing to support one. For next time, he should finish outlining and writing this essay. This will provide practice in independently outlining passage-based persuasive essays."
"The student and I worked on the basics of writing clear thesis and creating an outline. Then, we began writing a proper introduction and identifying evidence to prove our argument and thesis. Also, we worked on the proper make up of body paragraphs as well."
"Today, the student and I went over the narrative essay he had written as a homework from last session. He was asked to revise and edit the essay under my supervision. He is getting much better in providing details in writing paragraphs. During the session, he was asked to read a story and a poem and complete some comprehension questions. He had several mistakes on the answers, and we went over the strategies to look back into the text to answer questions. He was assigned homework on the capitalization rules and a writing prompt."
