"The student and I first worked on identifying the degree of a polynomial function. From there we covered finding the equations of a linear function given various information about the function. The final thing we covered was finding the vertex of a quadratic function. The student should work on memorizing the forms of a linear function: slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard form."
"We conducted review of combination and composite functions. We also looked at the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division properties of two separate functions. We then explored examples of composite functions and graphing. Once composites were mastered, we proceeded to inverse functions. After practicing about 15 problems we concluded the session."
"We covered material for the students upcoming test on Tuesday which was focused on graphing functions. We focused primarily on identifying critical points to a given function, and deriving a Range of solutions that pertain to a given domain set. Additionally, we covered inverse functions however, the student was unsure if her upcoming test was going to cover this, so I kept it brief. I saw an improvement in her algebra but needs room for improvement. I suggested to her to create a note sheet for her own reference and review throughout the duration of the class. This will create easy, accessible review on concepts that she struggles with."
"The student needs help with factoring and overall confidence with pre-calculus. We worked on sections 1.1-2.3 in his books. He was assigned question 35 (page 109) and tasked with making a formula page for the first and second chapters. We will review this next time. Please have the student copy/scan pages of concern before the session. It was a pleasure working with him!"
"The student's class is now covering polynomials and using tricks like synthetic division to find the zeros of higher-order polynomials. The student didn't have any trouble with synthetic division."
"Today's session was a split between the most recent quiz/material from last week and the new material started this week. She has a test on Friday, and will need to incorporate everything relating to probability, including material to come this week. She is good at taking the initiative and asking for help."
"The student and I started his new chapter which covered rational functions. He had a homework assignment that focused on finding the domain, X and Y intercepts, vertical and horizontal asymptotes, and holes."
"Today we worked on graphing transformations of sine and cosine functions. The student did pretty well with this. I saw some improvement during the session in her comfort with the behavior of the normal sine and cosine functions. I did a quick intro to graphing secant and cosecant, tan and cotangent functions."
"In this session we reviewed for the student's test tomorrow. The test material includes the domain and graph of functions, function composition, and inverse variation. The student needed a bit of review on the domain of composite functions and graphing piecewise functions but after a few problems they seemed to go well."
"Went over rational equations in depth with the student in preparation for a quiz the following day. Reviewed how to dissect rational equations to solve for asymptotes (Horizontal, Vertical, Slant). From there we talked about how to quickly sketch the graphs using asymptotes and how to use the graphing variables a, h, and k. I answered questions and created notes for the student to reference later as well."
"The student and I worked through her homework of dividing polynomials. We practiced both long division and synthetic division. We also used these division techniques to find factors of higher degree polynomials and the zeros of those functions. Then, we reviewed some of the problems from her test: factoring, end behavior, and finding maxima and minima on a graphing calculator. She will bring questions next week on the section she starts next week."
"The student had finished homework that was due so we went ahead and covered the next section that she will learn in class this week. The concepts were about how to find information about functions from their graph, and the student seemed to have a pretty good handle on the material."
