Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student 1 and I covered the new chapter 7 material, which involved percentage problems. We went over how to translate any percentage word problem into an algebraic expression for an easier way to solve the problems. He seemed to like this way and became adept at solving all the problems I gave him. I also worked with student 2 for a little bit to explain the coordinate geometry space and some order of operations before his upcoming assessment test."
"We went over how to set up integration using the Disk, Washer, and Shell Methods and did several practice problems of each. We also went over parametric equations and polar coordinates. For next time, I assigned problems on polar coordinates and limits."
"The student and I spent the first part of the session going over solutions, percent by mass, and molarity. I also left her with some practice problems on these topics. We spent a lot of the session looking at root problems and rational exponents. I also left her with review practice problems over the topics we've discussed recently."
"Originally tonight's session was to have been an additional review session for the student's twoday test. However, his instructor gave the students to portion of the test that covered the material we had not yet reviewed on Monday which meant that tomorrow's portion of the test will cover the material that we had reviewed.
Instead, we looked ahead to the next topic that the class will learn: operations with matrices. We practiced adding, subtracting and multiplying with matrices. Although the math involved was quite simple, the challenge with this topic is keeping accurate track of all of the steps. He did well, especially since the topic has not yet been taught in class."

"Today was my first session with the student. We worked on solving for the volume of disks and washers when rotating an area about an axis. We broke the problem into several cases, then worked through examples identifying where he was specifically having trouble. Then we created a procedure for how to approach these types of problems. It was very productive session and just a great first session. I gave him instructions on what to think about when doing his homework in preparation for an upcoming test."
"We began a new assignment over factoring higher order polynomials. This included complex roots. The student did great, so I didn't send her home with any homework."
"Today we went over some topics in statistics. The student remembered how to find the mode, median, and mean. She was able to use what she knew about the median to make box and whisker plots. We also went over types of correlation and stem and leaf plots. She didn't struggle with any of the topics we went over today."
"We covered confidence intervals and point estimates. She did better throughout the session. We had a decent amount of examples that she can work through."
"In this session, we reviewed a book that the student is reading in English class. We concentrated on analyzing the plot for thematic links throughout the novel. We also worked on Sections 11.3 and 11.4 in Algebra 2. We continued our practice of creating sequences and series."
"Went over conditions for integral test, and how it is used after nth term test.
Reviewed finding the sums of series based on formulas."

"Today was the start of the student's spring break so we covered a bunch of review problems from his most recent test. We then began with parametric coordinate systems, which were the next topic in his coursework, and I tried to give him a solid foundation on why we care (graphs which are not functions, also some nice algebra) as well as what they are and how they work."
"Today, the student and I looked at Lagrange multiples and absolute extrema of multivariable functions. He had a lot of trouble interpreting the directions of these problems, in part because the examples from his notes were very barebones. I helped him understand the processes involved with both explanations and demonstrations, and by the time we finished, he was handling problems mostly on his own."
