In addition, we practiced using the multiplication rule to determine phenotypic and genotypic ratios in genetics."
"The student requested an extra session to help her prepare for her midterm exam on Wednesday, her instructor provided her a review sheet on evolution, so we went through it from start to finish, leaving Hardy-Weinberg for Tuesday's lesson. We discussed the definition of a species, and the factors that could disqualify two species from being the same species, such as reduced hybrid viability and mechanical isolation."
"We reviewed his exam review worksheet. We covered metabolic pathways for electrons and protons in the transport of glucose to energy. photosynthesis, and reviewed mitochondria and electron transport chain structure & function."
"We went through Genetic and Genetics formula. I explained to her how she can find the percentage of recessive genotype, dominant genotype and heterozygous by having different kind of information. Also I explained to her how she can find the amount of each one in the population. She is doing good and she understood how to solve these kind of questions. She got 94 for her last exam before the New Year."
"We reviewed for his final. We went over the macromolecules and their building blocks. We went over enzymes. We talked about free energy, enthalpy, and entropy. We talked about water properties. I explained active and passive transport, diffusion vs. osmosis, and hypertonic vs hypotonic vs isotonic solutions. We went through cellular respiration and photosynthesis. I drew a quick diagram of mitosis as compared to meiosis. Finally, I explained how to analyze the results of a chi-squared analysis."
"The student and I reviewed current material in precalculus in preparation for his upcoming quiz. He completed a couple of practice problems that incorporated several different concepts and rules relating to logarithms and exponents. For biology I went through a brief rundown of what to expect for the test and how to start preparing for it. I also had him do a couple of exercises relating to genetics, his current chapter. After that, I had him explain a few concepts to me to get a general idea of how well he knew material. From there, we discussed study tips and methods to help for biology and what he should do in preparation for his quiz."
"Today we covered evolution from a variety of standpoints and lenses. We talked about general evolutionary theory, how it works in small time frames, such as genetic drift and gene flow, as well as how it works in large time frames, such as stabilizing, disruptive and directional selection. We went over homologous, analogous, and vestigial structures, and also talked about the genetic basis for mutation, and thus evolution. We then moved on to review a wide range of topics including DNA replication, transcription, translation, cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis. At the very beginning, we talked a bit about studying strategies and big concept ideas. Overall, she was an extremely responsive student who clearly knows her stuff, and will undoubtedly do very well on her AP test."
"We went over in detail the steps in DNA transcription and mRNA translation as well as regulation along these paths via methylation, acetylation, and other regulation factors. We discussed recombinant DNA technology and how PCR and gel electrophoresis can be used in forensics, agriculture, and human disease. The student had no trouble understanding the topics."
"The student was learning genetics in class so we went over the different methods of disease inheritance such as autosomal diseases and sex-linked diseases. We discussed the different types of dominance, and we practiced Punnett squares. We also discussed Mendel's Laws of Inheritance and worked on the student's homework assignment about disease inheritance."

"Today we covered genetics topics which were to be on a semester final after break. We worked on transcription, translation and replication of DNA. We were only working to answer some of the questions the student had on these topics. We also did some online AP practice questions."
