Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's algebra worksheet on simplifying rational expressions. The major topics covered were simplifying through factoring, difference of squares, taking out -1, etc. We then reviewed the major objectives for her Biology test on Tuesday and made a study guide. She had increased understanding regarding factoring out (-1) for simplifying rational expressions and seemed to have a good grasp on biology topics."
"The student and I first worked on her algebra homework, which covered solving and graphing absolute value functions. She did well with correctly solving these problems. We next did more studying for her physics quiz on speed, velocity, and acceleration. I quizzed her until she knew all of the definitions and formulas."
"We reviewed what was done last time. We worked on systems of equations and more complex versions of factoring polynomials. We also began to go over a practice exam. I left some problems for the student to practice. The student seems to be struggling with forgetting procedure. When the procedure is recalled things go well."
"Today, the student and I worked on finding solutions to multiple linear equations in two different ways. One was through addition or subtraction and another was by multiplying and then adding or subtracting equations. After this we worked on mixed problems. Whether something is positive or negative is essential."
"We covered factorization of quadratic expressions with the student today. She did really well and was able to grasp the concepts quickly and work through most of them with minimal guidance. She independently took the online evaluation at the end of the session and did really well. In the next session, we will be carrying out factorization of more complex polynomials."
"Completed Spanish homework assignment and completed intensive study session for upcoming Math exam. Focused on area of composite and polynomials. Also area and circumference of circles. Left student with extra practice to complete before exam tomorrow."
"The student and I focused on solving and graphing inequalities in 1-D. We discussed the basic behind solving basic and compound inequalities and graphing each type, including and/or inequalities. We also worked on solving equations containing absolute values. The student has shown good progress recently, particularly in solving equations/inequalities and his graphing."
"Right now they are working on more kinds of factoring, so I showed her a few methods and the student felt most comfortable with trial and error. We also went over quadratic equation."
"Today, the student and I worked on Spanish. He has a test on Thursday so we studied the vocabulary words and we also reviewed how to use both the subjunctive and the future tense. We took a couple of online quizzes and we reviewed the endings for both tenses. We then worked on his Algebra test review. We covered both independent and dependent probability and histograms. He has a test tomorrow. I encouraged him to continue reviewing the sections once I left."
"The student and I met to work her assignment covering relative frequencies. The student had a great handle on this and did a great job. We took the final 15-20 minutes to discuss a few other topics that will be coming up on a standardized test to ensure she was fresh on those topics as well. As always, it's a pleasure to work with her and I will be meeting with her again next week."
"The student and I had a GREAT session today! I encouraged him to continue his independent practice of the section that we'd covered in our two previous sessions. We actually made it through 5 sections during this one tutoring session today. These were largely using simple formulas to determine certain values. The topics we covered were: Center of Gravity for two loads on a beam, Uniformly distributed loads on a beam, Dead-Hang tension on one end of a truss, simple load on a beam, and multiple loads on a beam."
"We did a comprehensive review of chapter 11 to prepare them for the exam. This included a review of simplifying, multiplying/dividing, adding/subtracting, and complex rational expressions. Student 1 did well and only needed help with adding/subtracting rational expressions and inverse relationships. Student 2 needed help with the same material plus solving rational expressions."
