Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session the student worked on homework exercises. The topic was on "Traveling on the Train." He learned new vocabulary words and reviewed old vocabulary he learned last year. The exercises were also on the preterit and new irregular verbs. He was familiar with most of the vocabulary and the preterit, however, he needs to study the new material, especially the new set of irregular verbs and their conjugations."
"During our session the student and I focused on the present perfect and subjunctive tenses. We began by going over some notes on the conjugation and meaning of the present perfect, continuing with some examples and oral practice of using the present perfect in a conversation to answer a question asked in that tense. Next we reviewed some notes on the use of the subjunctive, including the acronyms used to summarize situations when the subjunctive is needed and a list of phrases commonly associated with the subjunctive. In our next session I will bring a list of the irregulars for the present perfect as well as the general rules of conjugation for the subjunctive, and we will get into the rest of the perfect tenses, completing our review of every possible tense that may be used in daily conversation."
"In our tutoring session, the student and I reviewed the flashcards we made on the colors. She was a little rusty since we haven't met in a few weeks (fall break, illness, etc.) but picked up on the words after a few rounds. We then spent some time writing the color names down, next to the English translations. She seems to prefer studying the flashcards to writing the words down on paper, and I'd like to work with her on building confidence in this skill."
"I asked the student to review the vocabulary of HSK 4 that she learned in the last session. When she had questions about pronunciation and Pinyin, I would tell her. Then we moved on to more vocabulary of HSK 4. She did not know a lot of words from the list. I told her to take her time and learn them one by one. As we went through words, I continuously gave her examples with simple sentences and words. Also the examples were closely related to her daily life. I used her family, her dog, and the city we live in for the sentences a lot. I thought it made it easier for her to comprehend."
"We did Chinese review today in preparation for the AP Chinese exam. We reviewed vocabulary today in class."
"The student and I discussed his test that he took yesterday. He told me that one section was hard, but he was able to work through it. We went over some translation homework and studied new vocabulary."
