Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we reviewed Chapter 27 in preparation for an upcoming test, focusing on some of the reading passages. We re-read the passages, going over key grammar and vocabulary. The student particularly was having difficulty with some of the vocabulary, so we made a list of the words she was missing on the online whiteboard. She took screenshots of the relevant words so that she could review those words/phrases again prior to the test."
"In this session the student finished the previous homework material. We went over clauses of rearing--which he had some acquaintance with in Wheelock's--and gerundives--which he had trouble with because they were similar to passive periphrastics. The next reading, which we took a quick look at, is a poetic version of the creation myth discussed in the previous homework assignment. It will also be his first introduction to Latin poetry."
"We started by reviewing noun endings. I just wrote random Latin nouns and had the student tell me gender, number, and case, and then I gave him sentences to translate from Latin to English. Then, we did English into Latin. Then, we continued to read the story we read last time, and I gave him homework to review endings and the next two sentences of the story. This was one of the best sessions we've had."
"We mostly covered the irregular verbs fero, ferre, tuli, and latus. In doing so, I helped the student recognize each tense, as well how each one is translated. He applied these learnings to sentence translations in which he performed very well."
"The student and I continued to review text from Caesar's Commentarii De Bello Gallico. This last part was particularly complicated, and he should pay close attention to the relative clauses and relative pronouns in the paragraphs."
"The student really brought his A-game to tutoring today! We continued our review of the forms and use of the demonstrative adjectives. He demonstrated a strong command of this notoriously-tricky grammar. We finished the session with a stab at a Livy passage he's been assigned to translate. Great job today, kiddo!"
