Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We practiced conjugations in present, imperfect, and passe compose for regular and reflexive/reciprocal verbs. We also went over the difference between reflexive and reciprocal and how to tell whether or not there needs to be agreement with the past participle."
"We worked today on the imparfait. When we started the session, The student said she did not understand it. By the end, she was able to conjugate an irregular verb that was new to her correctly in the imparfait. Her attitude was positive and she worked hard for the entire session."
"Today we focused on plus que parfait and passe compose tenses. We went through the student's textbook units in depth, and I ensured that he understood them both. We reviewed his 2 homework assignments as well. Lastly, we watched 3 videos together which centered around pronunciation of the French "r" and how it is pronounced. We followed along together and even did an exercise with gargling water to show where the "r" occurs in the throat. He really enjoyed the videos and will practice his "r" on his own."
"We covered conjugations of reflexive verbs, how to form the passe compose of regular verbs and regular reflexive verbs, and how to form the imperative of regular Ir and Er verbs. As far as strategies, I "made" a formula for how to make the passe compose of reflexive and regular verbs."
"Today we talked more about the subjunctive verb tense. The student's quiz this week came early, so we went over what they had been doing in class and what she did on the quiz (irregular subjunctives). I answered some of her specific questions about the verb tense and how it is used in day to day French. We went over the meaning of different phrases that lead into the subjunctive. We also looked at the vocab that she learned today, and I incorporated that into some practice sentences (which she did really well on). At the end we had a conversation in French, trying to use the new vocab and the subjunctive."
"The student and I spent a lot of time studying the vocabulary for his quiz tomorrow. He had a pretty good starting point. I wanted to gauge his pronunciation, which is decent. I also wanted to know how he was with spelling. The spelling was a little tougher, but he did OK. We also went over some imparfait. He's a very smart kid; I'm not worried at all!"
