"Session Four Tutoring Review During the student's second session we focused primarily on Tutoring Goal(s) 3 and 4, which involved helping her with any difficulties in her assigned homework and problem solving techniques. We spent the entire session reviewing her assigned homework problems and the basics of solving physics' problems. Below is a synopsis of the topics we discussed: We reviewed the importance of a frame of reference in physics and how a physics' problem changes based on the frame of reference. We discussed proper problem set-up including identifying the variables, the variable we are solving for, and diagraming the scenario to visualize the problem. We discussed how to use the algebraic equations to solve for variables and how in most problems multiple equations and steps will need to be taken. We discussed setting equations equal to each other in order to solve for a common variable. Homework and our Plan for Session III: Our next session is scheduled for Tuesday at 6pm. I asked the student to practice problem set-up and to solve both sides of one of the more difficult problems that we worked in order to understand why we set them equal to each other. Tuesday we will have a brief overview of any concepts that she may not have understood during her lectures and assigned homework and review her homework as needed. Notes: She grasped the majority of the concepts that were covered in her homework once I explained how to visualize and set them up. She's a brilliant student, and she understands the concepts and how to apply them with barely any direction! I enjoyed working with her, and I look forward to helping her to love physics!"
"We reviewed free body diagrams, splitting and adding forces, inclines planes, rope tension, Newton's second law."
"Test preparation covering all the previously discussed material (forces in one and two dimensions, friction, tension, etc.). We briefly touched upon the concept of drag/ air resistance as a teaser."
