Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered reactions with enolates, aldol, clause, malonic ester synthesis, reactions with carbohydrates oxidation, reduction, chain lengthening and chain shortening, practice problems, and synthesis problems."
"The student and I had a great session. She's studying for her physics final. The class has been very hard, and she's not confident in what the professor has been teaching. We managed to work through almost all of the problems in the review. In general, she has a good handle on the material, and a great idea of what to study moving forward. Good luck on the final!"
"This was our last session today. We went through a practice exam and the student did great. He asks good questions and the material generally comes easily to him. The only thing is that he needs to memorize the reagents. We will continue to work on this."
"We went over the questions he missed on his last midterm. From what I went through, it was clear that the student had a strong base and understanding of the material. However, he missed points when he was given questions that he had not seen before. The student needed help visualizing products. I advised the student to draw out the product for each step in synthesis and number carbons. I also reviewed epoxide openings and taught how to do H NMR and C NMR. I advised the student to do NMR problems and as many problems as possible for the final before we meet next."
"We went over a practice Organic test from her professor. The test was comprehensive, involving nucleophilic aromatic substitution, electrophilic aromatic substitution, condensation chemistry, regular reactions, aromaticity, synthesis, retrosynthesis, and mechanisms."
"We reviewed mechanisms and reaction pathways of carboxylic acids and their derivative. We also covered acid and base catalyzed tautomerization of ketones and aldehydes. The student was learning how to sequence certain steps of protonation and deprotonation in each reaction mechanism. She seemed to have a better understanding after going through several examples."
