Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the majority of the session doing subjunctive practice in preparation for the student's exam Friday. She did a really good job. I wanted to make sure we could talk through a lot of things and work together on figuring some things out. I feel like it was a good exercise to give her an idea of what she needs to study."
"The student and I reviewed the homework he did on the past infinitive and the reciprocal verbs worksheets I gave him. He did very well on them. We spent the majority of class today practicing discussing topics that are going to be on his final including vocabulary from the first 3 chapters he's worked on in class. He needs to continue to review his vocabulary a lot so we may be working on that more from now on."
"The student has a quiz tomorrow on negative expressions in French. Today, we went over the meaning of the different expressions and the rules for placing them in a sentence, and then I provided a lot of practice sentences for her to respond to. She really understands this concept and will do well on the quiz tomorrow."
"The student recently learned the subjunctive tense. We went over when the subjunctive is used and how it is formed. Together, we wrote a paragraph in which she was asked to use the subjunctive as she gave her friend advice. After we completed this activity, we practiced conjugating an array of verbs using all the tenses she knows: present, past, imperfect, and subjunctive. We did this for regular -er/-ir/-re verbs, several important irregular verbs, as well as reflexive verbs. She's definitely improving, which is great."
"Today the student and I reviewed various verb tenses for her upcoming quiz. We did a little review on present-tense -ir verbs as well. As always, she did a wonderful job in our session and stayed on task, focused, and sharp the entire time. We highlighted concepts to review (such as certain present tense verbs in the nous form and tips on certain verb tenses), and I encouraged her to email me should she need to before our next session. Great job, and see you next time!"
"Due to the new teacher, there was not a lot of new material to go over. What benefited the session was a PowerPoint that I made covering specific question words in French. She enjoyed the visual and the extra practice problems. With there being a slow rate of class, hopefully there will be more material to cover. Regardless, I will work on another PowerPoint activity for next week."
