Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we discussed the five parts of process writing, as well as relating them to what the student is learning in school. We then started organizing ideas for his first essay. We also completed 1.5 units in his grammar workbook on nouns and pronouns."
"The student and I continued our work on polynomials, doing FOIL problems, reviewed exponent rules again, and worked for the first time on the rules of decimal multiplication and the connection between that and scientific notation. Finally, we divided a trinomial by a binomial, one of the more complicated tasks that his course has required so far. Multistep problems challenge him, but I talked him back up to confidence by the end of the session. He has a test in one week and we'll be reviewing his practice test next session."
"Today the student and I went over strategies for writing the essay portion of the ISEE exam. She then wrote a full-length essay while being timed. After she completed it, we went through and discussed ways she could improve her writing style and any mistakes. Following up from our session last week, we went over a worksheet about dividing fractions and saved a few problems to review next week. We then continued to practice problems from the reading comprehension and verbal reasoning sections. My goals for her in the upcoming sessions before her exam are to expose her to as many practice problems as possible, and have her comfortable with the timing process during the exam. She understands the material very well."
"Today we worked on Reading Comprehension and Math. We discussed strategies he could use to help manage his time wisely. We also discussed ways of skimming and easily locating the answer in a longer passage."
"The student and I covered distance, rate, and time problems, how to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit and Fahrenheit to Celsius, and Perimeter and Area problems. She did a great job on most of the problems."
"We covered statistics. The student needs review on econometrics and basic statistics. She will present me with what problems we will work on by Monday. We will review for the test by going over previous problems and problems her teacher presented for her."
