Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We did something different today. We needed to work on the other parts of The Writing Process, so we did some revising/editing exercises. We read an already written paper that needed to be corrected. We did 2 of them together, revising and editing to make the paper better."
"We reviewed the student's homework from our last session, which involved identifying five details from an article. He then completed pages 10-13 in his green book, which focused on context clues. Followed by pages 15 & 17 in his blue book, which was grammar practice."
"Today, we read two passages from the student's purple practice booklet, and I showed him how to write a high-scoring essay (according to the 4th grade citywide curriculum). We spent most of the first hour reading the passages, summarizing the passages, and composing a draft for the essay. During the second hour, he wrote the essay, using his mnemonic RAFFT to guide him. After he finished, I told him to read it over three times to check for grammar and spelling mistakes. Lastly, I taught him how to use indentation and how to split long paragraphs into several paragraphs when there is a new main idea. I have noticed that he is struggling with grammar. However, after telling him to read it over three times, he was able to catch the majority of his mistakes."
