Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had completed all of his homework for Chapters 25 & 27. We began work on chapter 26, and finished our first-pass of the chapter. Next session we will be creating flashcards, checking his short quizzes for the chapter, and beginning work on the project."
"Today we finished reviewing the chapter on protists and fungi. We finished preparing outlines and did all the review questions. The student seems to understand and retain this information better by using detailed outlines."
"The student and I went over problems he missed on math tests. His scores were good. I checked his math homework, and he completed the unfinished portion on probability. He told me about his science movie commercial about a resort on planet Mars. I went over the project requirements with him and discussed a checklist of what he had left to do. He agreed with the checklist of what he had left to do."
"The student and I worked on her project for social studies, which was to identify key people involved in WWII and compile them into a list with pictures and descriptions. I mainly helped her clean up and focus her descriptions."
"Today Emily and I worked on ACT English and reading. Last time when we met, we discussed strategies for ACT reading and English and I gave her a practice test and asked her if she could take these two sections. For today, she had completed the English and reading sections. She scored a 27 on the English and a 31 on the reading. We went through both sections , going over the questions that she got wrong and the questions that she got right but had indicated that she was unsure on. After we had gone over both sections, I gave her some tips on how to improve based on which types of questions she had missed and what mistakes she had made."
"Last session with the student. Went over a mini-test on each subject given. Very strong in English and Reading. Needs to review the next few days on science and math."
"I worked with the student on a variety of things. We reviewed some vocabulary and went over some new words. We then talked about her reading homework and talked about a few of the problems she tends to have. We then looked at some math problems, just to iron out some estimation techniques."
"The student and I spent about 1.5 hours on a practice writing sample. She is very creative, but she does struggle with vocabulary, spelling and grammar. During the session, I also went over some basic grammar rules and grammar tips to help improve her writing skills. We then spend the last 30 minutes of the session with going over her vocabulary words and doing a short SSAT vocabulary section."
"To begin, we looked over all his vocabulary words for his Reading semester exam. He did well remembering the words. Then, we did some sight word reading. I timed him reading 500 words. We will continue to see if his time can improve. At the end, he read from the book Into Thin Air."
"The student and I worked through the rest of her review packet in this session. We also discussed more about the inequality theorem and the chapter five concepts that we had not spent much time on previously."
"Reviewed for exam on the periodic table: periodic trends, naming families, oxidation states, ionization energy, electronegativity, metallic properties, atomic radius, ionic radius, metals/nonmetals/metalloids."
"The student and I worked on the first two chapters of biochemistry. She has been given one online assignment so far this semester. We reviewed some introductory chemistry concepts and went over several problems dealing with pH and pKa values. Next session we will review proteins and amino acids and the next two chapters."
