Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I gave the student a worksheet on revising and editing. That is one of his weaker areas. I familiarized him with the symbols talked about how to properly revise and edit. We then did a worksheet over synonyms, homonyms, and antonyms. We also worked on how to distinguish prefixes, suffixes, and compound words. We also worked more on his paper over his favorite gift."
"We continued practicing writing prompts in preparation for the student's test coming up. We finished with one writing prompt and started on another that is a three part story so it has more elements to the writing prompt. We worked on the prewriting, and he is doing the first three paragraphs for next time."
"Today, we completed two passages from the assignment book from school. I noticed that his concept of a full sentence has improved, so we went over transition words, which are necessary components of a paragraph and an essay. Together, we made a list of transition words, and I told him to make a sentence with each transition word. When we got to the short answer questions for the passages, he was able to write a smooth paragraph with transition words. I reminded him to always try to use transition words to connect thoughts in order for the sentences to flow together. In conclusion, this session was very successful because his writing is coming together nicely. Within the next two sessions, we will be working on essay writing."
