Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the practice grammar sections the student completed for homework. She felt that the correct answer sounded right but wasn't sure of the grammatical errors/ corrections. We went over some key things to look for--parallelism, logical comparisons. We then worked on additional writing multiple choice practice and reviewed the vocabulary we've learned so far."
"Today's tutoring session went extremely well. The student received his highest score yet, and broke 2300 in his last practice test. At our session we went over his test, correcting the few errors he had made. We also looked at three tricky problems from the week before. I suggested he read the sentence aloud in his head to see if any words jump out at him as being incorrect. Next we looked over his essay. I can say without a doubt that it is the best essay he has ever written: I would give it a 6. There were only a few places where improvement could have been made, and we discussed how to better his introductions and conclusions. His body paragraphs are spectacular. If he keeps this high quality work up, I'm sure he will ace the essay on the SAT. I helped to edit the two essays that he is submitting to a summer program. There were not many errors, as the student is a very eloquent and concise writer, but I was able to correct a few grammatical errors and suggest some better vocabulary."
"We covered the vocabulary-based questions and passage-based questions. We reviewed strategies for reading the passages and answering those questions, as well as how to approach vocabulary questions when she doesn't know the definitions of words. I also instructed her to review vocabulary as often as possible (from her SAT prep book), as well as practiced more passage-based questions without worrying about the timing for now. She was rushing so much that she was missing easier questions, so I want to teach her how to answer the questions correctly and then increase the speed at which she reads and answers them."
