Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked very well together. I was able to show her some simple processes to make sense of the questions. We will work through sections as directed by her instructor going forward. I feel like she made good progress today."
"With the student having a chapter 9 exam the following day, we went over his review packet one last time and also reviewed the 6-7 pages of notes/assignments I had written for him for the past 2 weeks. His exam will cover topics such as: regular polygon areas, triangle relationships with circles, SohCahToa, non-right triangles (and using bisectors in order to solve these types of problems), arc lengths and area sectors, and population density. While it has taken him several weeks to get here, it seems that most of the material/concepts have now finally sunk in, and he seems capable of working and collating the material he has learned in order to solve more complex problems."
"We went over 10.6 on circles (arcs measures/lengths and circumference) and the student was fairly comfortable with the material. We were also able to complete her math homework which she didn't have difficulty completing. She wanted to go over 10.1/10.2 because she has a quiz on Thursday and she expressed concern over harder problems so I went over them with her. I reviewed the trig identities and the 30-60-90 triangle. I assigned her similar problems and offered to check them for her prior to her quiz on Thursday."
"For this session, the student needed some last minute help in understanding the required materials for a quiz he will be having tomorrow. His class has moved on to working with quadrilaterals, and this specific quiz will be focused on parallelograms. He understands many of the basic principles that govern parallelograms but starts to falter when he is required to take several of these concepts and apply them together to arrive at an answer. By the time I left, he felt confident that he would be able to do well on this quiz with a bit more practice and repetition of the problems he had been assigned for homework and review."
"Today we started introducing chapter 7 of geometry. We are working ahead so that the student will be better prepared once they return to school for the spring semester. We went over the Pythagorean theorem and how it applies in various situations and problems."
"In this session, we finished reviewing the student's homework, which focused on the characteristics of special quadrilaterals. After the homework, we spent some time reviewing the earlier parts of chapter 6. She seems to understand the concepts from chapter 6 well, but it would probably help her to make sure she has memorized the characteristics of the special quadrilaterals we worked on in this session. After break, she should be getting back a test and a quiz she took, so that will tell us more about where she stands in the class."
