"Today, the student and I worked on active reading strategies. We read sections 13.1 and 13.2 of his textbooks. We discussed key terms and concepts and he took notes (next time I asked that he have index cards so that we can make study flashcards as we go along). He also completed the knowledge bundle for sections 13.1 and 13.2 over sexual vs. asexual reproduction. I shared an AP Biology resource with him that will help prepare him for tests. We also discussed some important organizational skills. By Monday he needs to have a weekly assignment sheet completed so that we can plan our sessions for the week and use our time the best. He is also going to organize his notebook and get index cards for future use. I recommended that he make flashcards for the sections that we read today. He also shared that at the end of last week he took a long quiz (35 questions) and scored a B-. This is an improvement from recent scores on similar assessments."
"The student has an exam on Tuesday so we went over her review sheet and topics she was having problems with. She seemed to be having the biggest problem with synthesis and decomposition reactions. I showed her the trends of each type of reaction and how to figure out which one is being used in a reaction. She seemed to understand it well but needs to spend some time looking at the reaction types and how to determine which rule to use."
