Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We studied for the student's upcoming math test. We reviewed his past quizzes and the current study guide. He has a good grasp of the information -- he got an 88 on his quiz (higher than his previous quiz average)."
"The student has a test tomorrow in math. We reviewed homework packets and practiced problems from the book to prepare him."
"In this session, the student first reviewed and corrected the two problems that she had gotten wrong on her most recent math test, which covered word problems involving fractions. Next, she completed her math homework problems, which were an introduction to solving algebraic equations. I focused on ensuring she understood the reasoning behind equation manipulations (i.e. why one has to perform the same operation to both sides of an equation, and why one has to perform opposite operations when "moving" numbers/ variables). Finally, I had her solve some additional word problems that required her converting words into equations in order to obtain the solution. I was very impressed with her focus and enthusiasm during this session."
"The student had received back some tests from school and she and I reviewed them to see where her mistakes were. She says she is getting more confident in her ability to figure out the solutions to problems."
"The student was thrilled to let me know that she earned a 100% on her chapter 5 - sections 5.1-5.3 quiz. As she had already completed her homework, we reviewed some problems from sections 5.4 and 5.5 by completing problems from the end-of-chapter Review. After reviewing the problems together, she was able to understand the problems thoroughly. We then continued on to section 5.6 by showing her how to solve rational equations using cross multiplication and by finding the LCD. She seems to have a good grasp on these concepts, as she completed her homework for Wednesday and Thursday in advance. For our next session, we plan to do some review on the chapter concepts to prepare her for the chapter 5 test."
"The student's class is still covering exponential growth, which he is already very solid on. From the contents of his book we believe that their next subject will be logarithms. We spent the session familiarizing ourselves with properties of logarithms and how to solve problems using them."
