Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did not have a homework assignment, so he just wanted to review the material he has been going over in class. He is currently working on long division/synthetic division of polynomials. He had a few questions on how to do long division, so we went through some examples together. I gradually had him fill out the steps on his own, and by the end he was able to completely solve them by himself. By the end, he was able to solve the problems on his own with no mistakes. I am confident that if the student keeps practicing, he will be able to answer these questions well."
"Continued reviewing absolute convergence. The student had a little trouble finding out how to determine absolute convergence. We reviewed the methods used to determine convergence as well as the different stages of convergence. We then went over some practice problems. The student needed a little help for the first question so that he can see what we learned being applied. The rest of the questions came with somewhat ease for him. He needed little help understanding the remainder of problems."
"The student and I spent our entire session working on his pre-algebra math homework. The worksheet focused on solving one-step algebraic equations which we worked together the entire time. I taught the student to use the opposite operation on both sides of the equation to get the variable by itself, and then check the solution by plugging the value back into the equation for the variable. By the end of our session, the student was able to recognize what step we needed to do next. It took us 90 minutes to work through about 10 problems."
"I was very pleased to learn that the student did very well on his last test. Specifically, he received a 93, which is in A, on a test. During this session, we primarily addressed his webwork, which had to do with initial force vectors competing against other factors such as gravity, etc. Therefore, we have to know when to integrate or derive from position vectors or velocity vectors. We also addressed arc lengths, reparametrizing curves as arc length vectors, and curvature. He is doing very well. Hope to see him again soon!"
"The student and I worked more on place values and adding and subtracting 1 and 10, per her homework. She seems to alternate between understanding it and not. I believe that she will pick it up with more practice. I left a place value exercise for her to do. I will print more out for our next session."
"We covered expanding and condensing exponential/logarithmic equations, solving exp./log. equations and how to use the change of base formula. The student was ready to learn. There were several problems left unsolved, so the student could use what we learned in his own time."
