Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The first student and I reviewed her Spanish exam, and then worked on preparation for her class debate on federalism vs. anti-federalism. The second student and I discussed her social studies assignment, which derived modern English words from a Latin root word. She chose the Latin word "equus" to use."
"The student did so well today! We started with Georgia History, in which the student's class has just started a new chapter over the economy leading up to World War I and the Great War itself. She first wrote down her timeline and looked up the definitions for the vocabulary words. As she wrote, I made sure that she understood what the definitions for the words were. After she did that, I had her fill in a tree diagram using her vocabulary words to help her categorize them in her own mind, making both comprehension and recall ability easier. We then moved onto Language Arts, where the teacher has started giving out packets to be completed by the end of the week. She said she is having trouble studying for her test, so after we reviewed the packet together I asked her to practice with flashcards."
"We switched gears to get a head start on getting the student acquainted with the 50 states, capitals, and postal abbreviations. She will have a test on this at some point soon. We were able to get through the whole list. To finish up I gave her a worksheet that traced a road trip through the middle of the county, and she had to label all the states. I also gave her a crossword puzzle to do for homework."
