Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I got started on prepping for the GRE today. We talked mostly about math, but also discussed the verbal section, and questions requiring analysis of a passage in particular. Important math concepts that we covered include the formulas for percent increase/decrease and some exponent rules, among others,"
"Topics: Tax wedge, calculate tax revenue, consumer/producer surplus -- concept and examples, how to calculate; dead weight loss -- concept, calculating, elasticity and tax revenue, Laffer curve, dead weight loss and tax rate Progress: The student is ahead in his homework, and he seems to pick up on the concepts quickly. I think that I was mainly helpful in giving context to the questions, and ironing out any misunderstandings of the concepts. These sessions are very straightforward and productive. We will probably have a session next week if he has assignments or tests coming up."
"We talked about what the student found challenging when she took the SAT in November. Based on this, we mainly focused on writing multiple choice and reading sections. We discussed specific grammatical principles (to be expanded on in future sessions) as well as overall test-taking strategies."
"This session, the student and I worked on the following: completed sentence fragment exercise, reviewed and completed subordination/coordination exercises, and reviewed brief responses to online articles."
"The student scored a 22 on the science section of a practice test, a marked improvement over the 17 he received on the previous test. We reviewed his answers and strategies for taking this section. The student understands the questions when we go over them. We then reviewed the rest of the English section and went over issues with punctuation, modifier placement, and redundancy. He will be taking the test this Saturday."
"The student has worked ahead in his macroeconomics course. We still took the time to review his current scores and status, as well as the method by which his professor will be providing grades. We also had the opportunity to discuss and review his progress in marketing (in which he did an excellent job on a recent project) and management. The updates were good to also ensure that he was on track in these classes. Specifically, he talked about a recent management project, and he will be speaking with his professor to make sure that he has rubric/additional information about additional projects that will be completed. He will also be meeting with his group soon to complete a company specific SWOT project on a corporation."
