Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we did a review of basic conversational Spanish and learned new content which includes reflexive verbs. We also worked on building anatomy vocabulary."
"As usual, I had the students review numbers, colors, animals, and body parts in Spanish. What I've begun to do differently, however, is encourage both of them to start formulating sentences. For example, while learning animal vocabulary, I had them say "The horse is brown" in Spanish. Since "is" translates to "es," I figured using singular-third-person sentences would be a great way to introduce them to Spanish grammar. They both demonstrated their understanding by forming Spanish sentences. The session went excellently, and we will continue next week."
"We spent most of the session going over his current Spanish homework and a few basic grammar concepts. His homework was vocabulary-based, so we went over that to start. I gave him some tips on pronunciation (vowels, emphasis, accents). We also started going over conjugations (for regular -ar verbs only). He was able to pick up on some of the concepts, which bodes well. We then moved on to general study skills and organization. I also gave him some tips on how to keep track of and prioritize his homework so that it all gets done in a timely and comfortable way. Lastly, we talked about his reading skills; his comprehension is good, but he reads slowly. He currently is required to read for an hour and a half a week for a school reading log, but I recommended he make time every day to read."
