Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has her first real SAT tomorrow, so we briefly went over some of the sections that we haven't covered yet. Together, we went over how to approach the essays and then the student wrote one piece by piece by herself. She did a good job -- the essay as a whole had a thesis statement, and each paragraph started off with a sentence that stated what it would be about. She needs to work on using specific and appropriate examples, but I think that she'll be fine."
"We went over the essay and grammar sections the student completed for homework. She has a very good understanding of how the essay should be written and does well with it. She also did pretty well with the other grammar sections as well. We then worked on reviewing the types of math questions that she will see on the SAT."
"The student and I met for another session today. We moved onto the ACT Writing section today. I decided that the best way to prepare for this section was to practice writing essays for various prompts. He and I talked about what the ACT expects out of a good essay and how he usually organizes his essay. His style is atypical because he jumps right into writing without making an outline first. I let him loose on an essay, and once he was done, he gave it to me to look at. It is obvious that the writing section will be his strongest section in the ACT. He writes very well. After the first essay, we talked about it, and then I gave him another prompt to work on. On Wednesday we will continue our work on the ACT Writing section. I look forward to our next session."
