"Today, the student and I went over polynomial classification/addition/subtraction, exponential growth/decay and compound interest. He did very well with the exponential growth/decay and compound interest. We went over the difference between growth/decay factor and growth/decay rate, and he seemed to really understand it. In terms of polynomial addition/subtraction, after copious amount of practice in this area and giving him various suggestions on how to approach these problems, he seemed to start rocking these concepts again. I look forward to seeing his quiz results."
"We went over about 35 questions dealing with exponential functions and reducing and simplifying radical equations. We dealt with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of variables containing exponents and radicals. We simplified quantities by removing them from square and higher order roots. The student is doing a lot better on the concepts."
"We went through quadratic equations and how to solve them using the quadratic formula. We also went through systems of linear equations such as elimination and substitution. I advised the student that she do practice problems before our next session so that we could review any concepts that she still needs help on."
"We covered geometric sequences. The student was eager to find her mistakes. I encouraged her to memorize the difference between recursive and explicit formulas. She had a worksheet packet of different word problems involving the nth term."
"We went over math problems that the student had. It was mostly reorganizing problems in the y=mx+b format and then graphing. He mastered the concepts very quickly."
"Today, we covered factoring trinomials and using the distributive property with the FOIL method. The student is very hardworking and shows a great attitude in learning and understanding the material. However, she is struggling with some basic algebra concepts such as adding/subtracting polynomials and some math foundation concepts such as rules of power/exponents (adding/multiplying/subtracting/etc.) and finding the GCF. We will work on these areas in future sessions."
