Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student said he scored a B+ on his most recent quiz. We looked ahead to the lessons he would be covering this week on the lengths of tangents, chords, and secant segments."
"Sunday was the student's 11th Geometry tutoring session. It was very successful. He had a large homework assignment about geometric probability. We managed to review it all! He focused a lot of his attention on understanding how to represent real world problems on a number line with time as the parameter. These problems asked him to figure out the probability of certain events happening, with the more challenging ones involving inequalities. Once he talked it out and related the word problems to the number lines he created, then it made sense to him and he was able to calculate the probabilities. We also worked on some SAT prep questions. We spent some time focusing on the questions involving madeup mathematical symbols representing algebraic expressions. He never saw this type of question before, so it was worth spending the time understanding how it's worded and what's being asked of him to figure out. He really got it and was able to explain it to me. Excellent work!"
"We covered the most recent homework, which was unusually large. The tasks included using theorems of arc angles and corresponding vertex angles. Other problems included circleinsidethecircle problem with tangents of the inside circle being cords of the outside circle. Another set of problems included special quadrilaterals that were inscribed in a circle.
The student is showing high enthusiasm and competence for her work. She seems to like the structure of proofs in geometry.
The student is confident and prefers doing tasks on her own. However, she is also not shy to ask a question as soon as she feels stuck. And she is not shy in planning to talk to the teacher. All very positive things, the combination of own initiative, and communication with others is bound to increase her skill the fastest."

"During this session we went over midpoint, parallel lines, perpendicular lines, distance formulas, and proving various shapes on a coordinate plane. We went through notes and various problems. Overall this session went very well."
"The student and I covered lateral area and surface area of prisms, types of triangles, volume, and transformations. She was determined to learn. Since we went over free response questions, I emphasized to her the importance of showing each step of her work so that those reading and grading her answer can see her thought process. I suggested that she continue doing the problems in the practice tests and look at the examples in her book for any questions she gets incorrect. Since lateral and surface areas were difficult topics, I will review them with the student again when I see her. She did very well with understanding transformations, which is a topic that can be hard to grasp."
"The student began working with locus points, and we reviewed the five different theorems. After the review, she completed her homework."
