Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This is the first time I have seen the student this semester. He did well in college algebra last semester and today was mainly a review of college algebra concepts. In general, he knows this stuff pretty well but has heard horror stories about the class so he is definitely worried about how he will succeed in it. All I did for this entire session was write down the first step for the problems and he was able to fill in the rest of it every time. I count that as a massive win for this session as it shows he did have a good understanding of last semester's material."
"The student and I reviewed his most recent homework concerning chain rule and derivs of trig functions. He has a test tomorrow, so we went over problems from every section that will be covered, doing problems in the book and making sure he knows them well. He will do well on the test."
"Today we covered higher derivatives. Given the function f(x) we calculated f(2)(x) and sometimes f(3)(x). Then we used a graphic calculator to plot functions, and tangents on these functions at a given value of x. Furthermore, given even or odd functions, we had to determine whether the derivative will be even or odd. We have shown that, when f(x) is odd, f'(x) will be even. The student has high level of confidence and skill."
"The students reviewed limits of a function and properties of limits of a function in preparation for an upcoming quiz. They also was introduced to derivatives and the equation used to find the derivative of a function."
"The student and I started practicing taking derivatives using derivative rules. We went over the power rule, quotient rule, and product rule. We also did practice problems and homework problems using each rule."
"We did some more work with the limit definition of a derivative, graphing derivatives, and analytic derivatives. The student has a good attitude!"
