Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First, the student and I worked on a "Critical Thinking" worksheet from his science class about how landfills should manage their garbage. We had to review the terms catalyst, inhibitor, and implement. We also reviewed the properties of gasses and compared gas to solids and liquids. Next, he practiced writing equations for slope and y-intercept and then graphing the result. At first, he subtracted y1 from x2. I showed him the proper way to find rise over run, and he was able to answer the remaining problems."
"Today we started working on some math questions that the student had. She just took a test today, so she didn't have too much new material but we did the "Looking Ahead" problems for her next chapter to ensure that she is prepared. After that, we worked on her social studies paper. She has made a "T-diagram" for her comparison essay on Lincoln and Davis, so today we focused on forming an outline. She has a rough draft due on Friday, and the final draft is due on Wednesday, so we will work from there as her writing progresses in class."
"I had the student update her tracker with some assignments and assessments that are coming this week and next. I also had her make a note to finally finish the outstanding Science classwork that she has been waiting on her teacher to tell her do. She will instead do it herself during one of her Study Hall periods in the next two days."
"We covered decomposition, synthesis, and double displacement reactions for his upcoming test. He did very well."
"The student and I worked through a review packet to prepare for the final exam, focusing on problem areas and clearing up any remaining questions."
"The student was instructed to continue his exam study. Topics included: rational inequalities, roots of parabolas, completing the square, and the quadratic equation."
