"The student and I worked on solving exponential and logarithmic equations. It is a topic that she had not seen yet, but she grasped the concept of how to solve these problems pretty smoothly."
"The student and I covered for the very first time exponents and their rules of function, multiplication, division, raised to the zeroth power, etc. He did very well for this being our first time together. I believe he had a better grasp on it than previous subjects at the beginning stages."
"We worked on multiplication 1 through 12, odd and even numbers and adding three digits with regrouping. I do not have any concerns at this time."
"The student took a test on square roots and simplification. Her grade on the test was less than satisfactory, so my goal was to come in and cover more of the properties and help her correct her test. We spent most of the time solving the problems she had the hardest time with. I showed her a couple different ways to attack the longer composite functions so that she can organize her work better. I feel as though she is better prepared for the retake test on Monday, now that she has the tools and helpful organization tips."
"We discussed the concept of scaling tonight for the first time. He had about 40 problems from class to complete. He had time to complete the first two sections. We also discussed vocabulary words, including multiplier, factor, product, and multiplicand. He also was given some rules to use when addressing certain problems. He dutifully wrote them down. Once he understood the concepts, he voluntarily pulled previous notes out of his folder."
"She is taking her test early tomorrow so we spent our session getting ready for the test. The test will be over graphing rational functions, operations with rational expressions, simplifying complex fractions, and solving rational equations. She did a very nice job over the graphing functions, simplifying complex fractions, and multiplying and dividing rational expressions. She has improved from last time over adding and subtracting rational expressions. She was only making two mistakes when she was doing these problems. First, she would forget to distribute the negative in subtraction problems. The second mistake was over multiplying an expression like 2(x+3)(x - 5). She wanted to distribute the 2 to everything. We talked about those mistakes, and she will be mindful of those on the test. Otherwise, she did a nice job on solving rational equations. She should do a good job on her test!"
