Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"It was a pleasure to work with this student, and I do believe that today's session and our work together will prove very helpful going forward. She spent the majority of the session working on her homework for the class, which is due on Saturday evening. She completed about 15 problems, all relating to the Gas Laws. She skipped a few because we had already covered that material and she will complete those problems before our next session on Thursday. She said that she has a quiz tomorrow. Most of the quiz is on the material covered in the homework problems. There is some additional material on the quiz pertaining to stoichiometry, which we reviewed at the end of the session."
"We arranged to meet on Tuesday, from 5:30-6:30pm, rather than Monday. It was requested that we meet twice this week, so we will have a session on Thursday as well. The student has a Unit 2 test this Friday, so we covered half the material on Tuesday and will address the rest during the Thursday session. In particular, we covered practice problems and concepts regarding history of the atom, elements, ions, and isotopes. She understood the majority of concepts, like knowing the number of protons and neutrons that an atom has. We were able to fill in conceptual gaps, like knowing how to assess the number of electrons. I instructed her to create flashcards with some of the more common elements so that she can become familiar with their atomic number, atomic mass, and location on the periodic table. Having this information banked in her mind will accelerate her ability to approach and complete problems in general chemistry. Her father asked for advice on what he could do to help, and I suggested facilitating more practice problems that can be checked in the book and assisting with review of flashcards."
"We reviewed a study guide for an upcoming test. She is improving with naming chemicals and writing reactions."
