Tutoring review by Fese in Cedar Hill, TX
We went over her last algebra quiz on midpoints and perpendicular lines. She did not score well but she seems to be understanding the concepts. She just made a few arithmetic mistakes. We then went through her homework for the week together. She understood the new topics of mathematical proofs for algebraic expressions very well and she did not make any arithmetic errors once we reviewed several practice problems. Overall, it was a good session.

The student and I worked on some brainstorming techniques for his work with The Odyssey. They are currently working on timed essays. We did some idea mapping to get all of the student's thoughts in order. We also discussed how to structure the essay. We talked about what kind of information needs to be included in the Intro, body and conclusion.

The student has a upcoming test on Wednesday. We worked on the derivation of trig functions. Once I explained that arcsin was just the inverse of sine, she was able to understand and evaluate inverse trig functions. Derivations of trig functions were easy for her but integrating inverse trig functions proved a little more difficult. She didn't know when to use natural log or inverse trig. We did multiple practice problems so she would better know how to solve these problems. With a little more independent practice, she should have no trouble with integration either.

This session was the first of two or three final exam review sessions, and the student did amazingly well! We skimmed her review materials, identified checkpoints and easy/hard topics, and then completed one page after another, compiling notes and relevant formulas along the way. She is 40% done with her final review after just one session. Great job!

Tutoring review by Albina in Cedar Hill, TX
I gave the student a short test that covered most of the topics we did over the summer. The purpose of this was to get him to work on problems without help. He tried a couple of times to ask questions but I made it clear I wasn't about to explain anything until he finished and "handed it in." He ended up getting an 88%, showing that he knows how to do the problems on his own.

Tutoring review by Lindsay in Cedar Hill, TX
In this session, the student and I began by talking about the start of her school year and organization. We discussed strategies for organizing science folders along with how best to keep track of work. We then moved on to work on the math assignments. We explored the topic of translations with graphing which was lesson 1.1 of her math packet. Finally, we switched over to chemistry where she showed strong mastery of dimensional analysis. We then worked on naming ionic compounds and the criss-cross method of determining the ratios of metals/non metals in ionic compounds.
