Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For our second session, we covered a lot of content. We started with months, days of the week, weather, seasons, articles, family, pronouns, identifiers, emergency scenarios, and useful phrases. I sent them the slides to review, as well as a few websites about Montevideo. They are progressing very quickly."
"We went over the three verbs they studied for last class. They did much better. I added the verb "escribir" which is an "ir" verb; the others were "ar" or "er" verbs. We also wrote a list of good verbs to become acquainted with. Then we did pages 60-1 in our textbooks. These also had verbs which was a welcome synchronicity. They gave me five words they both remember. Actually one student gave me six. Finally we watched more of Princess Mononoke."
"The student has great grades in all of his classes except Spanish. In this session, we focused on studying for his vocab quiz for Spanish. Then we focused on some trig problems with the remaining time. We also tried to schedule some volunteering hours, as he has to complete 9 more hours for a total of 15 for this semester."
"The student has an extensive foundational knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and conjugation. She took notes on the rules of accentuation, and after extensive review (about 30 minutes) pronouncing words out loud and identifying stressed syllables, she correctly identified the syllables. She was given written activities on gender, accentuation, and plurals in order to test knowledge."
"Today's review was fun, we first did the body parts games, they seemed studied and prepared well and enjoyed the process. Then we did the dates and review of the previous lesson and after that was the writing dictation. We then started to write compound words, and they seemed to enjoy this. Today's new vocab were: feet, fingers, nails, and how to say and write: up/above, down/below, "piece/item" and very. At the end, we played vocab count games within 5 mins time limit. They did well today."
"We managed to translate 6 of the student's journal entries into Chinese. He had a bit of trouble remembering how to write some of the characters. I suggested he try an iPhone app to practice writing every day so that the characters come more naturally to him."
