Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I began the lesson by reviewing student one 's vocab and spelling words with her. She learns how to spell words very quickly. I went through each of the words and created a memory aid example, which seemed to help her retention greatly. Afterwards, I gave her a writing assignment and asked her to include her new vocab words into her writing so that she could better understand them. For student two, I wanted to teach her how to funnel her creativity and naturally good writing style into more organized, well-thought out papers. I gave student two a writing assignment and worked with her in the beginning to create a comprehensive outline, with emphasis on using paragraphs to introduce different ideas and how to tie it all together in the introductory and conclusion paragraphs. The structure seemed to help and she wrote one of her best papers yet."
"This session focused on two specific areas. The student and I began this session with the construction and development of his upcoming essay on The Reconstruction in the Unites States at the conclusion of the Civil War. The student and I worked on a 3 to 5 paragraph essay about the positive and negative impact of emancipation on African Americans in the 19th century. We constructed his essay and highlighted the hook, body, and conclusion required by his study guide."
"We worked through all of the material on his final exam study sheet, and I left him with a few practice questions for his short answers. The student is more than ready for his multiple choice questions, but he will need more practice and review to do well on the short answers."
"I met the student this morning a couple days after his physics test. He said that overall it went pretty well but he had no clue how to do one of the problems. We will review the test once he gets it back. After spending half an hour on going over the new unit on circular motion, we worked on the second draft of his paper on Wiesenthal's The Sunflower. The book is fairly dense and philosophical, so some of the points were hard to make clear, but we polished the style and made the overall structure of his essay more cohesive. We will work on more physics in the next session."
"The bulk of today's session was spent organizing binders, editing the student's English essay (due Wed), and reviewing lessons for math homework. The student worked very diligently to get all of her assignments done before I arrived today. The student has been left to finish her math HW due tomorrow after all pertinent lessons were reviewed. The student is to type up her rough draft of her English essay after we worked on a proper outline."
"We worked on fluency skills as well as adjectives, verbs and nouns. I am going to prepare a packet of adjectives, verbs and nouns for him to review as well as a few fluency passages for him to read."
