Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered conventions of standard written English for the writing portion and focused on math concepts including divisibility, symbols, trigonometry, and ratios."
"The student is looking to apply to college, so we worked on the two essays due next Monday for that. We got a lot of good ideas on paper, and we're going to work back and forth on a Google document prettying those up. We also dove into some admissions test Reading problems and completely changed the way she approached the passages. I think reading to understand big ideas just started to click, and it seemed to do wonders for her speed, accuracy, and nerves. I'm really looking forward to seeing how differently the next practice passages go for her."
"The student and I spent the majority of this session working through the practice exams I had assigned for homework. She said she felt very confident with the two reading sections but slightly less confident with the math sections, so we looked over some of the problems that were most difficult for her. We made some major breakthroughs with her understanding of functions, but she had a bit of trouble with questions including geometry. We spent half an hour on a quick geometry recap, and we'll be sure to expand on this next session. We also reviewed some fundamental algebra strategies (substitution, combination, the cardinal rule of equations, etc.). She feels more and more confident with the material but is now a bit worried about timing. To practice, I'm going to ask her to time herself as she completes sections of the test. This should get her used to pressure under the clock. All in all, a good session."
