Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had recently been introduced to the exponential function and its inverse, the natural logarithm function. We practiced some chain and product rule derivatives with these functions. We focused on chain rules with multiple steps, and product rules that required substantial simplification of the result. He did very well taking these derivatives by himself. He has a test coming up, so we will be meeting Saturday at 3:00 to review the concepts that will be covered."
"Covered problems dealing with critical points of functions, and recognizing stationary points and points of non-differentiability. Also used first and second derivative tests to find extrema."
"We went through his homework on optimization problems. Occasionally, when the problems are difficult, he gets stuck, so we talked about how he needs to use the same procedure every time."
"We went over derivatives again today which included limit definitions of the derivative as well as just general derivative applications. We worked on related rates problems involving triangles using both the Pythagorean theorem as well as the trigonometric relationship between sides."
"The student and I worked through some problems relating to the product rule, quotient rule, chain rule, and implicit differentiation. She seems to be making significant progress in internalizing the algebra rules that are essential to accurately solving many of the problems we've been working on. She seemed confident about the topics we were covering, so that was very promising!"
"The student and I wrapped up our discussion of limits today by looking at several examples of limits at infinity and infinite limits. He understood the material initially, but we added rigor to his understanding which will benefit him as he applies the ideas."
