Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over identities of exponents including when to add or multiply exponents. We then went over different methods of simplifying exponents (via simplifying fractions or adding exponents), and negative exponents, including how to make them positive exponents."
"The student and I went over exponents and radicals. This is material that her classmates studied while she was on vacation. We made sure that she was caught up and ready to take the quiz and test on the material."
"The student and I covered a variety of concepts. First we reviewed his last two units covering sales tax percentages and interpreting many types of graphs. We than moved on to box and whisker graphs. Lastly, we reviewed simple interest and compound interest. The student is taking his test next week and I am fully confident in his ability."
"We worked on simple interest and compound interest. We discussed interest and how the two interest differ. I explained the interest formula. The student then was able to apply it to solving word problems on the topic. She shows great confidence in distinguishing the two interest and appropriately applying the formula."
"We worked on solving systems of linear equations using substitution and elimination. We talked about fractions and how to add and multiply them. We corrected homework problems. We worked on applications of linear systems but will go into more detail next time."
"We reviewed systems of equations, elimination and substitution. We focused on using the associated and distributive properties to simplify equations. She is showing improvement and greater understanding. The goal is to complete this in 4 to 5 weeks before the finals. Extra practice for her was to continue her practicing of the same."
"We reviewed topics for the student's upcoming test which included solving systems of equations with the elimination method (linear combination), the substitution method, and the graphing method. We also practiced word problems using 2 systems of equations. Her confidence seemed to be improved by the end of the session."
"The student and I reviewed the procedures for solving quadratic equations: graphing, factoring, square root, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. He does great with each technique."
"We covered the Pythagorean theorem thoroughly for a test that the student has coming up. He has an excellent attitude toward his math, and it is reflecting in the scores that he is getting on his tests. He scored an 89% on his last test. Nice job!"
"Most of the session focused on reviewing for an upcoming algebra exam. Specific topics focused on the Pythagorean theorem, solving word problems about linear motion, and solving domain and range questions. I would recommend more general review of titrations and understanding equivalence points."
"The student and I reviewed homework problems related to topics previously covered, including multiplying/dividing/adding/subtracting polynomials. He seemed to do well with these, so we moved on to factoring."
"Today student started Quadratic Functions today and we went over axis of symmetry and vertex points. I showed him how to obtain that value graphically and algebraically (which he prefers now). I tied this back to factoring but it seems like he forgot a little on factoring which does concern for me because factoring and quadratics are tied together. I will tell him next time to review factoring. He will learn the rest of quadratics and I should be able to help him same time next week with all of this. He got much better with this later."
