Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished the student's preparation for his final exam, covering rational functions, adding, subtracting, and drawing conic sections. He is in very good shape with all this material, as he is a very adept math student."
"Today, the student and I reviewed for his exams coming up. We practiced writing piecewise functions, composing functions, and transforming functions. We also practiced factoring polynomials, foiling polynomials, finding domain and range, dividing polynomials, and finding intercepts. We did examples for each of these topics, and he definitely seemed to have a strong understanding of all of the different concepts. I had to explain a few things, such as how to factor a sum of cubes, but overall he felt very comfortable with all of the material. We will meet again on Tuesday."
"We went through expressions, equations, and inequalities. The girls said that they completed and corrected the comparing and scaling review yesterday, so we didn't go over any of the material for that unit. We also went through some filling and wrapping questions, especially those dealing with cylinders that are missing sides (cake frosting problem, soup label problem) and how to find the surface area and volume of pyramids, which is new material for them. I asked them to bring any questions they may have on any of the units to our session tomorrow, which will be our last session before their final."
"The student and I prepared for the final exam scheduled for Monday. His mother printed out sample questions from the teacher, so we worked on answering those questions. The focus of preparing the answers was to understand the process and specific standards being addressed by the type question. I accessed my teaching materials, and worked multiple-choice "Critical Area" performance tasks. We accomplished a lot. We talked test-taking strategies for multiple-choice questions, particularly how to eliminate choices based on given information."
"The student and I completed her extensive extra credit assignment for her Algebra 2 class. I worked alongside the student, who knew how to tackle all the problems for the most part. She needed slight review on graphing inequalities and probability questions, but the straightforward algebra problems were nothing for her."
"Today the student and I continued with the chapter nine homework she been struggling with. The study of Trigonometry portion of her book has been a particularly difficult portion for her. As the sessions go on, however, she seems to be becoming more comfortable with the concepts."
