Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I started reviewing for his final exam coming up on Tuesday. We went over finding the column space of a matrix, finding the null space of a matrix, finding bases for the orthogonal complements of the column space and row space of a matrix, finding the dimension of a subspace, and finding the inverse and transpose of a matrix. We practiced problems from each of these topics, and he definitely seemed to understand things quite well. I tried to write things up on the mathboard in a succinct but precise way so that he could use what I wrote on his notesheet. We will meet again tomorrow to continue reviewing for his exam."
"During our session today we worked on math. The student's math final was moved up to Monday, and while she wasn't entirely sure what material would be covered, we had a few good guesses. We looked at graphing trig functions, and using trig functions to map out the lengths of sides on triangles. She was a bit fuzzy with both techniques, but by the end of our session I was happy with where she was."
"The student and I reviewed for her final exam. This session, we focused on logarithms. We worked on simplifying logarithmic equations, knowing their properties, and graphing logarithms. She wrote down all the properties and rules throughout the session on her master study guide we've been creating through all of our sessions. I gave her a few more websites for even more practice. For the next session, she is going to complete the study guide given to her by her teacher, and we'll go over any questions she is unsure about."
"We did several problems on the student's semester review assignment. These problems were on labeling graphs of distributions as normal, skewed right/ left, calculating probability, margin of error, graphing logarithmic functions, inverses, and expanding/ condensing logarithms. We still have a couple of pages to finish, but we had a really good session! He is doing much better on logarithms and distributions. Great Job,! I want him to make at least a B on his semester test."
"What concepts did you cover specifically?:
We continued our chapterbychapter review for his upcoming exam, covering chapters 10, 11, and 13.
What was the student struggling with most?:
The student's errors continue to be small errors that come from not rereading the questions and from poor handwriting.
What was the student's attitude toward the material that was reviewed?:
The student quite focused today, and we were able to get through a lot of material.
Did you include any strategies or study skills in this session?:
We expanded his list of guidelines for him to follow when he does his work.
Did you leave them with any extra practice?:
Yes, he is going to continue to do review problems.
Did you see any scores/grades to note progress?:
He hasn't had any new grades in his class since their last test.
Any concerns or wins from this session?
He's doing well, he just needs to focus sometimes and not make simple errors, especially handwriting mistakes we'll continue to improve upon this moving forward!"

"Today, the student and I worked on how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. I taught her how to find the percent of a number, and what percent a number is of another. I also showed her how to perform order of operations, and add and subtract integers. She solved word problems involving percents and fractions and set up a proportion and solved it. She also simplified expressions using the laws of exponents. To help with adding integers, she drew circles with + or inside them and then made zeros. She also wrote notes that she could use to help her study and identify similar problems in the book."
