Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Covered last topics for pre-calculus exam. Went over conic sections, parabolas, hyperbolas, and sequences."
"The student had already passed her biology final, so we focused on her only remaining topic: pre-calculus."
"The student and I began to review for his final. We worked through the first two chapters in this session."
"In today's tutoring session, we did a couple different things. We went over the most recent class topic and worked through the homework on the introduction to the unit circle. This included understanding degrees and radians, finding complementary and supplementary angles, and drawing the standard lines on a unit circle. The student picked this up very quickly! It was definitely a good start to a new chapter. Then, we went over a past test that the student wants to redo. This goes back to exponential and logarithmic functions. Some things, the student seems to have forgotten, but I think there will be more confidence with them if the student continues practicing the problems we went over together. This includes changing log functions to exponential functions and vice versa, and condensing and expanding log functions. We will keep practicing these points."
"Today the student and I worked on precalculus and history. We reviewed a precalc test that he got back today and went through and reworked the problems he missed. We then reviewed both of his math homework assignments, which were very basic trigonometry questions that he handled easily. We then discussed his history assignment on propaganda, and I was very happy to see the detailed answers he wrote. Our next session is scheduled for Wednesday."
"We focused on homework involving basic families of polar graphs, such as cardioids, lemniscates, limacons, and roses. The student had a very good grasp of how to graph different shapes and how to analyze their equations in order to determine which class they belonged to, and where any major or minor axes were located, and whether there were any internal loops. He said that it helped that his teacher had given a lot of examples and direct instruction. It seems he works best with some direct instruction and he felt much more confident about this new section than he has about previous ones."
