Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First Student F did his English and social studies homework. I then quizzed Student S on the prepositions. We then reviewed the grammatical structures we've covered lately and I had him say more complex sentences in Mandarin."
"The student did a good job tonight! I helped her finished two homework sheets. I made sure she understood and knew what she was doing and was able to make choices on her own."
"We reviewed the initials and finals we learned last time. Students did well with initials, but they had more difficulties with finals. Their pronunciation of the four tones was much better than the last time. In this session, we finished learning the initials and finals in Pinyin and learned how to form a syllable in Pinyin. We did some practice in forming and reading simple syllables and homework regarding this has been assigned."
"We reviewed numbers (1-100) first, and continued to learn more numbers (beyond 100). We also learned how to report telephone numbers, and three expressions of days of the week (Monday to Sunday). We covered lots of vocabulary today, and he did a great job!"
"We worked on the student's translation homework today, which included short sentences as well as a long paragraph. The vocabulary dealt with trips and travel (e.g., historic site, capital). She also told me that she has a project that needs extra tutoring hours. We set up a session for this upcoming Tuesday."
"At the beginning we went from page 75 to 92 in the exercise book to practice consonants and some double vowels that are easily confused, then we went through words in the new picture book. We also went through 50 flash cards and extend the vocabulary to the objects in the pictures. I encouraged them to use Chinese as much as possible during class. I gave them each one sheet to practice writing characters as homework. We went through body parts words and counted numbers from 20 to 1 backwards. We watched a short video on YouTube at the end."
