Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Yesterday, the student and I reviewed the test-prep assignment for her Math class. We reviewed about ten problems on the assignment. She is able to understand how to do the problems when I show them to her in pictures and she can redo a problem when given the exact same type of problem. We worked diligently on the problems."
"I taught the student how to do exponents. We also reviewed GCF, LCM, perpendicular and parallel lines, and adding fractions. She completed her homework too."
"Today I worked with the student on finding the area of rectangles and right triangles. He had a lot of questions about how to find the area of an oddly-shaped figure with sections missing, so we did about 15 practice problems with those, using two different techniques (breaking it up into smaller figures and adding them together; finding the bigger figure and subtracting out the missing chunks). When we looked back on the worksheet he had already completed in class, he was able to recognize some of the errors he had made and fix them himself."
"It was a pleasure working with this student. We went over counting money, and the value of different types of coins, then how to add up coin values. She did well with remembering the different types of coins and their values. We also covered how to add and subtract by number lines, which she struggled with a little bit at first. We are supposed to meet one last time Friday, and I will leave her with some extra practice then."
"The student and I practiced what she learned last session - place value, addition with carrying, and subtraction with borrowing. She did well. We expanded the learning in these areas into the 1,000's and 10,000's with addition and subtraction as well. We worked on multiplication tables. She read a book for me and we employed the line, finger, word method and she did real well. We also worked on characterization while reading which she also did well. We went over blend sounds and long vowel sounds as well as spelling rules."
"For this session, the student completed a few math pages from his workbook. These included counting activities and addition and subtraction. He did a great job with these! He also learned how to play a counting strategy game called Mancala. He seemed to catch on quickly, and I'm sure in no time at all, he will be very good at the game."
