Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the student's test on solving equations. She self corrected 2 out of 3 wrong problems, identifying her mistakes and correcting them. I helped her through the last step of a word problem on the test. She completed her homework covering similar shapes using proportions and cross multiplication to solve for an unknown. Because she will miss Thurs and Fri math period, we covered dilation of shapes to keep her on pace with her math class. She did a great job with dilation."
"We went through partial fraction expansion and the beginning of undetermined forms using the L'Hopital's rule. He seemed to grasp the concept of partial fractions quickly."
"This session we mainly focused on subtracting large numbers and practicing borrowing. Both boys had issues borrowing from the number zero so we practiced that and by the end of the session they understood it. We also practiced word problems using addition and subtraction. Overall a great session!"
"We covered distance formula, triangles and perpendicular lines. We reviewed problems from the worksheet and created a few problems on our own to work out. It seems like the student has a good foundation for the topic and after a few "click" moments, she really understood what she was doing and why she was doing it (finding slopes, finding distances, etc.)."
"We covered single variable equations. The student has a quiz tomorrow and wanted to go over some problems to feel more confident. I walked her through the first two, assisted with the next two, and left the remaining 6 for her to do on her own with my guidance. She is a super bright student, and hopefully it will shine through on her quiz tomorrow!"
"During our time together, the boys and I worked hard to prepare for the tests the students had the following day. To do this, I quizzed them with pre-made flashcards, as well as created a note card that would be used on the test. We also completed math problems that were used to prepare for the test. We went our separate ways feeling very confident with the knowledge that they had. I look forward to meeting with them again soon!"
"Least-squared lines of regression, residual plots, correlation, predictions were discussed. He does well interpreting and explaining things when needed."
"Reviewed with him how to correctly write his numerals. He still exhibited some numeral reversal, but showed demonstrable improvement by self-correcting most of his errors. Mother reported that he had also been practicing. He also appeared more proficient in simple addition. He also showed improved in simple subtraction. Of note, he worked diligently for the full hour with no breaks except for transitions in between exercises, which is commendable and will likely be useful when he is ready to move on to more complex arithmetic. Overall, he appears to be progressing well at this time."
"This session we talked about ratios and how to compare numbers using ratios. We also went over how to convert fractions, decimals and percents into ratios. We then related that to circle graphs and creating a graph that compares a part to the whole. I reviewed geometric formulas with him and I showed him how to use the volume and surface area formula for a rectangular prism. We also reviewed the definition of pi as the ratio of circumference to diameter. Finally, we started looking at the coordinate plane as the intersect of 2 number lines, and I explained to him the four quadrants. He practiced with identifying coordinates and graphing ordered pairs on the plane. I gave him practice problems to work on content we reviewed today."
"Today we reviewed linear functions and circles for her test. We went over finding equations for lines and circles in different situations. We also discussed different ways to shift functions, as well as even and odd functions."
"We covered quadratic functions, zeros, axes of symmetry, and minimum/maximum values from his homework assignment. We also assessed his grades in his classes and are in the process of developing a plan to bring his English, financial planning, math, and history courses."
"In this session, we covered parabolas in every form (vertex and standard), translations of functions, and composite functions. Student scored a 91% on her last assessment (according to her mom), which is a marked improvement over her previous assessment. No concerns of note with the student."
