Karen ...my passion, I tutor a broad range of subjects. I make practical application and show the students how Math is used beyond the classroom or tutoring environment. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time at the beach with my family, exercising, and sewing. I look forward to working with your child!... I love teaching and I believe I have a calling to teach. I enjoy the challenge of working with a student that is struggling, to help that student experience success academically. From my observations, as a student experiences success, self-esteem will go up. Playing a part in the life of a student educationally and seeing them succeed is my reward. I enjoy working one-on-one with students. This gives me the opportunity to get to know the student as a person and observe where their strengths and weaknesses lie. As I tutor in math, I enjoy using white boards so that I can see how a student might work a problem. It gives me an opportunity to see their thinking process. Other activities I use include flashcards, games, and constant communication. Getting the student to share as the learning process is going on helps to open up ideas and reinforces concepts being taught or reviewed. Sharing my experiences in life with different concepts or subjects presents education as being practical. That is one thing I try to impress upon my students. Concepts learned now will be used beyond the classroom. Every student is unique with great potential. To help nurture a student academically, and develop their talents, I am preparing that student to be successful in life. To have a student say “This is fun!” is what makes teaching rewarding.
