Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over a probability problem sheet I brought to our session. We addressed each different type of probability and how to arrive at the solution. Additionally, we did some problems with combinations and permutations to figure out some issues with those topics."
"We did a thorough review of units 1 (transformations) and 2 (lines, angles, and triangles). We talked a bit about congruent triangle proofs. Finally, we practiced with some surface area and volume problems. The student says she struggled with the beginning units before she started tutoring, so I would like to spend more time again on that during the next session. She should take care to memorize area, surface area, and volume formulas. It was a pleasure to tutor her, as usual. I left her with many online resources: tutorials, apps, and practice problems."
"We continued with trig word problems and introduced a new formula for area of a triangle. We worked through problems involving circles and chords and briefly reviewed factorials. The student is ready for more challenging problems and new concepts."
"We met to review for her multiple choice test on Monday. She seemed a lot more confident about the review questions than when we last met. We did extra problems that I brought for her to do. She got through them very quickly and correctly."
"Since the student has her end of year exams coming up, we had another session today. Luckily for her, her teacher decided that the exam will not be cumulative but will only cover the most recent unit. Thus, we spent the first hour going over the problems that were assigned for homework and reviewed some of the theorems there. For the last half hour, we reviewed theorems from earlier this unit, as I noticed that she was struggling to remember some of them. I advised her to work through more of the practice problems from earlier parts of the unit to solidify her understanding and recall of those theorems."
"I helped the student with his geometry homework, review sheets for his assessment exam. He should definitely review geometry two-column proofs and the many circle, triangle, and other theorems. He's good at using prescribed rules to solve problems. Aside from geometry, I helped him review chapter 34 of his global history textbook. I'll see him again on Monday."
